St Brigid’s Catholic Primary school is a two-form entry primary school, in the South of Birmingham.
We are looking to appoint a Lunchtime Supervisor, to commence as soon as possible. They will be hardworking and committed to providing an excellent cleaning service. Previous experience is preferred but not essential.
Job Description
1.Job Purpose
1.1As part of a team, assisting the Senior Lunchtime Supervisor/Principal in securing the safety and welfare of pupils during the midday break. This will involve effective supervision of pupils in and about the premises of the school
2.Key Responsibilities
Supervision and control of pupils in the dining hall including:
2.1Where appropriate, assist/supervise pupils with their general hygiene requirements (washing, toileting changing clothing etc. in accordance with School Policy) prior to entering the dining room.
2.2Organising dinner queues and entrances of pupils into the dining hall and from the dining hall/main hall to the playground; ensuring good behaviour and a calm atmosphere. Dealing with any bullying/fighting/unruly behaviour that may occur by intervention or calling for assistance, reporting incidents to the Principal/Senior Leadership Team and Senior Lunchtime Supervisor, according to the severity of the incident.
2.3Directing pupils to seats, deciding on seating arrangements and separating pupils, who are having difficulties, where necessary
2.4Encouraging pupils to eat (including those with packed lunches) and supporting those with specific needs.
2.5Being aware of pupils on special or restricted diets, for medical reasons, from information provided at the school. Assisting pupils with cutting up food, pouring liquids etc. where necessary
2.6Encouraging social skills and good table manners and ensuring safety with knives and forks. Ensuring pupils tidy/clear up in a satisfactory manner.
2.7Cleaning up spillages when food is spilt or dropped including such spillages that are hazardous to pupils/staff.
2.8Dealing with any spillages in the dining hall in accordance with infection control procedures and ensuring pupil goes to the medical room, if appropriate.
2.9Sharing responsibility with other Lunchtime Supervisors and/or teachers for the maintenance of order and discipline in the dining/main hall areas.
Supervision and control of pupils in the playground and about other school premises, including:
2.10Where appropriate, collecting pupils from classrooms if going straight into the playground, ensuring they are adequately dressed for the prevailing weather conditions, where necessary.
2.11Supervision and control of the school entrance during lunch break to ensure children do not leave the playground without permission/authorisation. Check on any strangers who may enter school premises in accordance with school guidelines and be observant of any loiterers and report to the Principal/Senior Leadership Team/Senior Lunchtime Supervisor.
2.12Direct pupils to the playground and supervise their activities and behaviour, ensuring their safety and well-being and providing emotional support, where necessary.
2.13Preventing bullying, being aware of changes in friendships, encouraging socialising, play etc.
2.14Discouraging any dangerous activities. Dealing with any unacceptable or challenging behaviour under the direction of guidelines in operation at the school i.e the Behaviour Policy.
2.15Reporting any bad behaviour, assaults, carrying of weapons/banned substances by pupils to the Principal/Senior Leadership Team/Senior Lunchtime Supervisor.
2.16Supervise and control any pupils, inside school premises, when they are not allowed outside in inclement weather. Occupying pupils in various games and activities.
2.17Ensuring in accordance with instructions given, that all pupils return to the care of their teacher(s) at the end of the lunch period. Communicate with teachers regarding any issues from the lunch period as well as following the Behaviour Policy to reward and praise pupils for expected/good behaviours.
Associated Ancillary Duties:
2.18Checking toilet areas (two staff at a time) for signs of vandalism, blockage of toilets/wash basins and to ensure pupils are not loitering or playing in toilet areas. Reporting any damage or blockages to the Site Manager.
2.19Ensuring that any pupils who suffer accident or injury are dealt with appropriately in accordance with the First Aid Policy.
2.20Being aware of cultural differences between pupils, dealing with any incidents of racism or sexism in accordance with the Behaviour Policy.
2.21Assist with cleaning the dining/main hall at the end of lunchtime.
General
2.22Individuals have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of all children and young people he/she is responsible for or encounters.
