Required for September 2024
In partnership with the Archdiocese of Birmingham, the Lumen Christi Board of Directors and School Standards Committee of St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School are seeking to appoint a practising Catholic to the role of Vice Principal for September 2024.
St Thomas Aquinas is a large and thriving Catholic comprehensive school in the south of Birmingham. Along with seven local primary schools, it is part of growing Catholic Multi Academy. It is a place where staff and students from all faiths live out the school mission. Examination results in summer 2022 and 2023 were excellent. Building on the ‘Good’ judgement by OFSTED, the Catholic Schools Inspectorate recently judged the school to be ‘Outstanding’ in all areas. As a result, we are an oversubscribed school and becoming more and more popular with families.
The school has improved using a knowledge-based approach; the highest standards of behaviour and academic challenge for all regardless of background. St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School is unapologetically ambitious for the children we serve. The next phase of development is to become a truly great Catholic school.
Working with the Principal, the person appointed will have a burning desire and proven ability to share their faith with others. Their faith will provide the inspiration and direction for an experienced group of leaders and dedicated support staff.
The successful candidate will have experience working in disadvantaged school communities and an excellent track record of achievement and innovation throughout their successful teaching career. Our new Vice Principal will be responsible for ensuring the highest expectations are understood and owned by all stakeholders. All of this will be in in line with the Catholic values and beliefs that are the bedrock of our school.
The last two post-holders have progressed to headship within 3 years. The person appointed will bring energy, integrity and drive and undoubtedly be another prime candidate for headship within 3-5 years. This is a wonderful opportunity for the right candidate to make a huge contribution in a major Catholic comprehensive school.
Prospective candidates are encouraged to informally meet the Principal, in person or virtually.
Lumen Christi is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to satisfactory references, which will be requested prior to interview, an enhanced DBS check, online searches, medical, evidence of qualifications plus verification of the Right to Work (RTW) in the UK. All applicants will also be required to provide two suitable references.
Closing date for applications is 9am on Tuesday 9th April 2024.
Shortlisting will take place on Wednesday 10th April 2024.
Interviews will provisionally take place on Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th April 2024.
