Hutton is a popular Voluntary Aided Church of England comprehensive school situated near Preston. The school admits boys only from 11-16 with 670 students currently on roll. The school also has a co-educational Sixth Form which offers a broad range of A level courses and currently has 132 students on roll. The school was judged ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted in May
2022 and received a positive report from SIAMS in January 2026 which recognised that “pupils and adults are individually known, nurtured and inspired”.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • The business and financial management of school resources, including budget and financial planning
  • Advising the Senior Leadership Team and governing body regarding the financial position of the school and communicating this to external agencies when required
  • Management of the administrative operations of the school, including line management of school support staff
  • Negotiating, managing and monitoring licences, insurances and contracts on behalf of the school
  • Management of human resources administration for the school for both teaching and support staff, including support for recruitment processes
  • Working with the Senior Leadership Team to develop and review the School Improvement Plan
  • Overseeing the school’s information management systems, including completion of statutory returns and preparation of systems for the new academic year
  • Acting as the schools’ Data Protection Officer and providing guidance and support to staff about Data Protection Regulations
  • Developing income generation activities, including the preparation and submission of bids for funding to external agencies
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of the marketing strategy for the school
  • Overseeing the School Operations Manager in the management of health and safety for the school premises.
  • Supervising the administration of external lettings of the school premises.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication and ICT skills and extensive knowledge and experience of financial and administrative systems.

The role is full time (37 hours a week) term time plus three weeks and will be paid at Grade
10 (SCP 35-40). The additional three weeks will be worked on school INSET days and at key
points during the school holidays to ensure continuation of financial processing and
preparation for the new academic and financial years. The number of weeks may be
negotiable for the right candidate, however the ability to work some days during the school
holidays is an essential requirement. The point at which the successful candidate will be paid
will be dependent on their previous experience.

Candidates are welcome to contact the school for an informal discussion about the role before applying.
