Full Time – Monday - Friday hours to be confirmed but core time 7.00 a.m. – 3.00 p.m. timings and may include some evening and occasional weekend work.  

St Thomas Aquinas is a large and thriving 11-18 Catholic comprehensive school where staff and students from all faiths live out the school mission and every member of the community feels valued and engaged. In 2018, the school was judged to be Good by OFSTED.

The school requires:

• An enthusiastic, hardworking Building Services Manager to manage the Site Team from September 2022.  

• Attention detail and a pride in their work would be an essential requirement

• The ability to manage the team (2 assistant BSS) both in their day-to-day routines and for larger school projects and events will be required.

• The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines and to produce work to the required and to agreed timescales.

• Demonstrate good interpersonal skills to communicate with a wide range of people across the school community is needed.

It is an exciting time to join St Thomas Aquinas School as we became part of the Lumen Christi Catholic Multi Academy on the 1 April 2015. This links us with six of our Catholic Primary Feeder Schools and brings real opportunities for collaborative teaching and learning.

You will be responsible for:

General maintenance and security of the school buildings and grounds under the direction of the Business Manager and MAC Facilities Manager including:

• Planning/overseeing and contributing to DIY tasks, decorating, plumbing, repairs, cleaning.

• To be responsible for and oversee statutory testing is completed and paperwork maintained in a central area for regular audits by the MAC Facilities Manager.  Experience of the importance of statutory testing, with due regard to legislation, is a requirement together with a sound knowledge and respect for H & S at work.

• Overseeing maintenance of the school minibuses – cleaning and regular service checks.

• Grounds maintenance – ensuring the grounds are well maintained, litter free, safe, and secure.

• Oversee and be part of the team responsible for general janitorial duties throughout the school day and to monitor and ensure all facilities are clean and safe.

• Work as a team member in setting up for regular assemblies and larger school events throughout the academic calendar.

• Oversee the Site Team’s working hours for the opening/closing of the Site/out of hours events/annual leave allowance – to ensure the site is always manned apart from Bank Holidays and planned all site closures.

• You must be able to show you have practical experience to undertake maintenance work of the Site.

• A positive “can do” approach to all requests and the ability to be flexible, calm under pressure and work on site emergencies as a priority within a working day as needed. 

Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements, general maintenance experience is essential.

You would be supported in the role by two Assistant Building Services Supervisors and the MAC Facilities Manager and have a day to day working relationship with the School Business Manager.

The ability to converse at ease with parents/students and members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post
