We are currently looking to recruit an Occupational Therapist who knows how to support lifelong learning and living.  We are a new school filled with staff who are passionate, dedicated and will bring their experience to our team based at Cumbria Academy for Autism. This through School is a specialist provision for ASC pupils and will provide education for boys and girls aged between 4 and 19 years who have a primary need and diagnosis of Autism and who may be suffering social, emotional and behavioural problems in mainstream Education. This is an exciting opportunity to join our provision and play a key role in the development and learning of our students. The OT will become part of the therapy team that specialises in monitoring and designing communication strategies to meet the specific individual needs of the pupils within and outside of class to give all of our students the best possible educational outcomes and life experiences.

At the Cumbria Academy for Autism our students will benefit from our unique, bespoke creative curriculum with strategic support from multidisciplinary teams of therapists, and we are looking for the OT to take a leading role within the creation of our therapy team which will enhance the whole school’s learning experience.

The new school will have specialist facilities including sensory rooms, therapy rooms, an interactive immersive classroom and a sensory gym. We are very proud of our holistic curriculum which enables the pupils to benefit from blended therapy in the classroom. We are passionate to support our pupils and families from the local community to ensure the best outcomes.

The Role

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist to join this new school; this is a really exciting opportunity to be part of something very special.

You will provide a specialised child-centred Occupational Therapy service to children and young people aged between 4 to 19 years of age who have autism and associated complex needs across the academy, undertaking assessment, interpretation of assessment results, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, advice and review.

You will contribute to the creation of Cumbria Academy for Autism’s ethos, provide the vision and direction which enables effective support and achievement by students, providing sustained improvement in their spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical well-being in preparation for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.

Some occasional out of hours work such as evenings and weekends may be required e.g. Parent evenings or home visits.

About You

You will have the relevant degree or diploma to practice and hold the knowledge and experience of working with young people with autism and associated learning difficulties. You will have demonstrable experience of undertaking the assessment and implementation of sensory integration.

You will need to have knowledge and experience of developing working practices in line with regulatory organisations and the Academy’s policies. You will also need to be a facilitative and effective communicator, both written and verbal, to enable you to build strong links with all internal and external stakeholders.
