Woodfield Academy is a very successful and popular 5-form entry middle school with ± 518 pupils on roll, aged 9-13 years. We are a happy, vibrant learning community, with high aspirations for the children in our care and the staff team that supports them. We have strong links to the community, other schools and in particular, our wider pyramid, or ‘family of schools’.

The Attendance Officer will work alongside key school staff in school to promote excellent attendance, reduce levels of absence and work with children and families to promote high levels of attendance. It is important to:

  • Promote and support high levels of attendance
  • Promote a positive attendance and punctuality culture
  • Form strong relationships with parents/carers/academy staff/external providers and the EWO.

He/she will be responsible to the Deputy Head teacher and provide a comprehensive, confidential and professional support service to the Deputy Head teacher in all aspects concerned with the efficient and successful operation of the school.


  • To identify and work with individuals and groups of students, using regular attendance checks
  • To work closely with parents/carers and students to improve levels of attendance
  • To collate information with regard to the attendance of students who may be experiencing attendance difficulties in order to inform school, Education Welfare and parents/carers
  • To manage the admissions to the school and leavers from the school
  • To use SIMS to update information promptly within Academy and Local Authority guidelines


  • To work with groups of students to improve levels of attendance
  • To work with parents/carers and other agencies in improving their child’s attendance record and coordinating parental support and training where appropriate
  • To undertake home and school visits as designated by the school/Educational Welfare Officer
  • To interpret information relating to attendance patterns and identify key areas of concern for the SLT
  • To ensure all registers are completed and no missing marks or unexplained absences remain
  • To assist with the identification of students who will receive support in improving their attendance record
  • To analyse and provide required data on attendance
  • To follow the Academy Policy of ‘first day contact’ within the school
  • To use the text messaging system to inform parents
  • To check and remind any necessary staff to complete registers
  • To ensure all unexplained absences are accounted for or send letter requesting an explanation
  • To assist and check records prior to the Census to ensure school attendance is accurate and up to date
  • To maintain and provide a support service for the Deputy Head teacher, including forward planning of her workload, diary management and co-ordinating and collating all relevant paperwork.
  • To service meetings, including preparation of meeting papers, obtaining and preparing briefing materials and presentations, and taking minutes when requested/where necessary
  • To liaise effectively with internal departments and external organisations on behalf of the Deputy Head teacher
  • To ensure appropriate systems and processes are developed and maintained to support effective and efficient day to day running of the Academy
  • To plan and implement hospitality arrangements for the Deputy Head teacher, including provision of hospitality for visitors
  • To provide a confidential and efficient filing system for the Deputy Head teacher
  • To execute any other duties appropriate to the grade as directed by the Director or his nominated deputy
